SCHOOLS OUTREACH PROGRAMME

WELLINGTON PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE

Wellington Performing Arts Centre has a long history of working with schools in the Wellington region and further afield.  The Outreach Programme operates on three levels:

• School visits to the Centre
• Centre-designed performing arts programmes delivered in schools by Centre tutors
• Tertiary students and WPAC Productions tours to schools

School Visits

With adequate warning, the Centre can organise a half-day visit for school groups that might include a performance by tertiary students and/or performing arts workshops by Centre tutors.  Each year towards the end of August, the Centre holds an Open Day, where prospective students or school groups can observe the tertiary students in class and watch them perform.

Performing Arts Programmes

The Centre has experience in designing programmes of study in either drama or dance particularly for Year 11, 12 and 13 students.  These may be delivered weekly or over a concentrated time span in a workshop-type situation.  On occasion the Centre has also worked with intermediate-level students to facilitate their learning in both dance and drama.

School Tours

Each year tertiary Diploma-level students organise and promote schools tours of theatrical works or dance performances that are performed at schools at either the end of Term One, or the end of Term Two.  In addition the Centre has produced and toured two Road Safety shows to schools throughout the North Island of New Zealand, sponsored by the Road Safety Trust – the plays Driving You Crazy and Hit the Curve!
