COURSE REQUIREMENTS
FOR WELLINGTON PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE
The full-time courses are of 38-weeks duration (Diploma) and 20-weeks duration (Certificate), comprising 25 contact-hours per week, with classes being delivered between the hours of 9.00 and 3.00pm.
The part-time courses are of 20-weeks duration, comprising 17.5 contact hours per week, with classes being delivered between 9.00 and 1.00pm daily.
There is a high expectation of attendance, with all students being required to attend 90% of classes in order to successfully complete the course.
Full-time Diploma and Certificate Courses:
Students should be prepared to work a significant amount of time each week on self-directed tasks such as journal entries, assignments, completion of performance research, rehearsals and special projects.
The Centre has a strict policy with regards to out of school performance for full-time students. Performance (theatre, film, dance, musical, television, commercial, radio etc.) in any capacity (e.g. performer, technical assistant, director, etc.), whether paid or unpaid, is not allowed without prior written permission of the Director.
The Centre has a well-established system of assessment and moderation. The level of engagement in training is assessed through class participation and journal entries. Throughout the year a number of assignments and performance tasks are given for the purpose of feedback and summative assessment. The program has an added dimension of self-evaluation by the student, which will be undertaken in conjunction with the Director and the Senior Tutor.
Students are eligible to apply for student loans and allowances for the full-time Diploma and Certificate courses.
Part-time Professional Training:
It is expected that students will undertake these courses in conjunction with part-time employment in the afternoons and evenings after school. Consequently, the courses are mostly practical with a minimal academic component.
Students are not eligible to apply for student loans to pay fees, or student allowances to pay for living expenses for the part-time training courses.
AUDITIONS
Entry to most courses is by audition. Audition criteria vary according to the discipline being studied and are specified under the relevant sections. Entry to the Certificate in Creative Arts and Therapies is decided by interview only.
