ADVANCED ACTING
DIPLOMA IN ADVANCED ACTING - LEVEL 7
A 1-year full-time course, the Graduate Diploma in Advanced Acting offers specialised, in-depth training in acting that trains performers to high technical standards and endows them with the ability and courage to deliver bold and imaginative work. The Devised Theatre Unit recognises that on the world stage, the devising process is emerging as the dominant force in contemporary theatre. Its objective is to develop the performer as co-creator.
The Advanced Acting Unit will build a bridge between text-based and physical theatre by focusing on the psycho-physical acting methodology of Michael Chekhov, using body and imagination as the main source for text analysis and character building.

ENTRY CRITERIA:
Open to all graduates of Wellington Performing Arts Centre’s Diploma in Performing Arts courses, who will be admitted by invitation. Graduates from similar level courses (NQF Level 6) at other performing arts institutions and experienced practitioners will also be eligible. Consideration will be given to appropriate prior learning.
Candidates should prepare an 8-10 minute presentation incorporating text and movement to present to the audition panel. There will also be a group audition and an interview with the audition panel. Candidates who submit a video audition only, are unlikely to be considered.
Specific attention will be given to:
- ability to work independently
- acting ability
- ability to work as a part of a group
- performance ability
- health (current medical certificate is required)
- ability to take risks
- Appreciation of course outline and aims
- vocal ability
