ADULT COMMUNITY CLASS QUESTIONS

These questions apply to classes that are run by Wellington Performing Arts Centre. These classes include: Acting for Adults, Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap Dance, Ballet, Screen Acting, Irish Dance and Contemporary Dance.

Can I just turn up on the night and attend a class?

Yes. You are welcome to attend a one-off class and pay on the night.

What if I do not participate in the class, but just watch it, do I still have to pay?

Yes. You will still be charged for the class even if you just watch. The tutors prefer that you participate in the class.

Do I need to register for the class?

We encourage you to register for the class before you turn up. You can do this by clicking on the particular class you wish to attend and filling out the online booking form. Alternatively, you download an enrolment form and bring it in with you when you attend the class.

I'm an absolute beginner, will I still be able to cope with the 'beginners' class?

Yes. The beginners classes are designed for people who haven't had training in that particular style before.

What if I have had some training, but not in that particular style, should I still attend the beginners class?

If you are not confident enough to go straight into the Advanced or Open class it is always best to start in the beginners class. You can talk to the tutor about what level you feel you are at and possibly move up into the next level.

Can I get one-on-one tutoring?

Please contact the Centre for this.

Do I have to attend the classes every week?

No. The Centre recognises that some people cannot always attend classes on a weekly basis.

Can I use a book of ten tickets for different classes?

Yes. You can use the tickets for different classes provided the duration on the ticket matches the duration of the class. For example, a one-hour ticket is used for a one-hour class and not a one and a half hour class.

I bought a book of ten tickets quite a while ago and they have now expired, can I still use the tickets?

No, the Centre's policy is that the tickets cannot be used after the three month period in which they were issued.

Can I join a class half-way through the term?

Yes. You are still welcome to join the class at any point during the term.

When does the next term begin?

The terms for the rest of 2008 are:

Term 2     Monday 5 May to Friday 4 July                       9 weeks

Term 3    Monday 21 July to Friday 26 Spetember        10 weeks

Term 4    Monday 13 October to Friday 12 December    9 weeks

Are there classes during the holidays?

No. There is a two week break and then the next term begins. The Centre will also be closed druing public holidays.

Do the classes work towards anything, like a certificate, exams or a performance?

The Centre has a Adult Community Class concert in December that most classes perform in.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing, like gym clothing, that you can move in freely.

Where are you located?

We are located at 36 Vivian St on level 2. Click here for a map.
