** Puerto Rican 3 (Linear) is by invite/prior confirmation only.
*** Students must start at the beginning of a course set, as the classes are taught progressively.
**** All Salsa Magic classes are taught "On-1".
***** Cuban 1 and Puerto Rican 1 cater for absolute beginners, and for those you may have learned one of the styles only. They can be learned at the same time and students are welcome to attend both courses simultaneously if desired, or i.e. combine Cuban 2 with Puerto Rican 1.
Cuban style:
In keeping with our Salsa Magic roots, this is the traditional form of Salsa that originated in Cuba. The patterns danced are more circular and leads are from a "back-break" step. This is a great style for the social dance floor and for really “guepando” or grooving baby! (You can learn this style at the same time you learn the Puerto Rican style of Salsa).
Cuban 1:
10-week progressive intro to Cuban style, footwork and groove for absolute beginners to salsa or even those with some “Puerto Rican” salsa dance experience. Men will learn to lead the ladies into various patterns (formerly known as Beginners Level One).
Cuban 2:
10-week course that progresses on from where Cuban 1 left off. The men will now start learning to turn the lady then lead themselves into various moves. More "shines" and footwork will be taught (formerly known as Beginners Level Two).
Cuban 3:
Again, this 10-week course progresses on from Cuban 2 and is now at a level where you should be confident with all you Cuban Salsa footwork and leading/following basics and musicality. We will progressively teach you a new "move" or two each week, leading to more complicated combinations in the latter half of term (formerly known as Intermediate Level One)
(NB: Cuban 2 students who are wanting to move up to Cuban 3 half-way through a 10-week course will need to wait until the next term, and should repeat this course, or perhaps try the Puerto Rican 1 course in the meantime as the teachers can accommodate Cuban dancers half-way through the term).
Cuban 4 (Rueda):
This 10-week course effectively leads on from Cuban 3. It is danced in a “Wheel” (as the Spanish word translates to), and incorporates many of the combinations and techniques you would have learnt during Tuesday classes, plus a whole lot more increasingly more complicated intricate Cuban combos for your dancing pleasure. The “Rueda” assists you to really keep up with the Salsa tempo and work as a team to dance in unison. Great Fun!

NB: It is not uncommon, nor embarrassing to repeat courses in order to prepare for the next level.
Puerto Rican Style: (aka “Linear” style salsa)
This style of salsa has evolved mainly in the U.S. as a result of Puerto Rican, Cuban, and other Latin American immigration to the country. It is an elegant style of salsa, which incorporates the same rhythm and effectively the same step counts as Cuban style. It is danced up and down a theoretical line, which makes it ideal for presentations, shows and competitive salsa, as well as for crowded Salsa dance floors. (You can learn this style at the same time you learn the Cuban style of Salsa).
Puerto Rican 1:
10-week course for absolute beginners, or those who have only learned Cuban style salsa in the past. In this course we will teach you the basic salsa footwork and patterns required for this Salsa style, the “Cross-body Lead”, and “Cross-body Lead Turn” amongst other Puerto Rican basics (formerly introduced often towards the end of Beginners Level Two, and during the second 5-weeks of Intermediate Level One).
Puerto Rican 2:
10-week course that progresses on from Puerto Rican 1. You must have mastered the basic Puerto Rican techniques from Puerto Rican 1 in order to participate in this course. Each week we teach new “linear” style salsa techniques including ladies (multi) turn preparations and the famous “touch-and go”. As the term progresses, the difficulty of the combos will increase. A great challenge and it is expected that a student will need to repeat this course as part of the learning process (formerly known as Intermediate Level Two).

Ladies:
If at all possible please bring a male friend who would like to learn to dance too. There is generally always more interest from ladies in the Level One courses however there are often more guys in the higher levels.
Couples:
Whilst, you are not obliged to swap partners, we strongly recommend you do eventually, as you will become a much more proficient dancer leading or following different dance partners.
Dance etiquette:
* Please use breathe fresheners throughout class and bring a water bottle, you will get thirsty (which can cause bad breath)
* Put fresh deodorant on before class
* If you sweat a lot bring a hand towel
* Wash your hands before and after class
What to wear:
* Comfortable clothes. You are welcome to wear your corporate suit if coming straight from work, as long as you are comfortable. Ladies should not wear tight skirts as it is hard to partner dance in them.
* No heavy soled shoes. No shoes that stick to wooden floors. Ladies a closed shoe or a strap holding your foot well into shoe is best. Little sand shoes are fine, or flat shoes, but a little heel is preferable. Careful that slip-on shoes often come off while dancing too. Also, please make sure you can go up on the ball of your foot in them.
We encourage our students to come along and have fun and exercise at the same time, build on their confidence, socialise, listen to gorgeous music, and learn to LOVE to dance (and for many, discover that they actually do not have two left feet!). We ensure that our classes are progressive, fun and entertaining, and we always go over what we have taught the week before, and move around the class ensuring that everyone has understood what has been demonstrated.
Salsa Magic Classes include a 10-week Beginners Level One course, followed by a Beginners Level Two course, then a 10-week Intermediate Level One, and finally two options of Intermediate Level Two/Advanced are offered.
